Medical device simulation company adsilico has raised £10 million through a Series A round led by PXN Ventures. The University of Leeds spinout will use the investment to develop virtual heart models further and extend its technology into neurovascular devices.

Northern Gritstone and Parkwalk, which had previously invested in adsilico, also took part. The business was established in 2024 by Sheena Macpherson, Dr Nishant Ravikumar and Dr Zeike Taylor.

Its platform, Virtual Chimera, builds virtual models of blood vessels and hearts from anonymised clinical scans using generative AI. Simulations based on physics then assess device performance across variations in anatomy, demographics and medical conditions before clinical trials.

The company says the approach gives manufacturers evidence to guide device sizing, identify higher-risk patients and refine trial plans. It is designed to complement existing tests, with the aim of spotting problems sooner and potentially reducing the need for animal testing.

Completed projects include work with manufacturers of heart valves and neurovascular devices. The expansion will cover flow diverters, which treat brain aneurysms, while adsilico also plans to hire more staff as it moves into additional therapeutic areas.
