Orders at Leonardo reached €60.4 billion in the first nine months of 2026, a rise of 28 per cent against the corresponding period a year earlier, the Italian defence and aerospace group said. The company had not previously exceeded €60 billion.

Leonardo also reported higher revenues across all its operating sectors. Its board approved the nine-month results, which included a contribution to backlog growth of around €6 billion from buying Iveco Group's Defence division. That acquisition was completed in March.

Chief executive and general manager Lorenzo Mariani said work was under way to strengthen capabilities and use the backlog to expand capacity for production and delivery. He described integrating and digitalising platforms, building industrial partnerships and pursuing targeted acquisitions as foundations of Leonardo's strategy.

Projects Mariani cited included the GCAP fighter aircraft, joint ventures involving Rheinmetall and Baykar for vehicles and drones, and an alliance involving Airbus and Thales aimed at creating a European space operator. He also pointed to technological development of the Michelangelo Dome.

The Italian state owns a stake in the listed group through the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
