Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, and Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, briefly greeted each other in Madrid on 5 November 2026 at the 30th Ibero-American Summit. It was their first public meeting during the gathering.

Two weeks before the encounter, Milei had called Sánchez an “unpresentable dictator”. The leaders have clashed for years, with disagreements over ideology repeatedly giving way to personal attacks.

The dispute prompted Spain to withdraw its ambassador from Buenos Aires in May 2024. That decision followed criticism by Milei of Sánchez and his wife, Begoña Gómez, at an event held by Vox, the Spanish far-right party.
