Nvidia and Swedish non-profit foundation Norrsken are developing an artificial intelligence hub in central Stockholm for start-ups addressing health and climate problems. The foundation said the facility, named Stockholm AI Lab, is scheduled to open in 2027.

The US chipmaker will supply computing infrastructure and software, as well as access to its global network of start-ups. Neither partner has disclosed the investment amount. Details of the equipment, computing capacity available to members and charges for access have also not been specified.

Selected start-ups will share the premises with Nvidia employees. Private offices are planned, along with events linking founders to researchers, investors, policymakers and industry representatives. Nvidia’s software will support activities involving life sciences, robotics and simulation.

Nvidia will operate the biotechnology demonstration lab with Root Bio, a Stockholm start-up that uses AI to design molecules for biological applications, including greenhouse gas reduction. The partners say the lab will demonstrate AI’s role in automating biological discovery. They also intend to choose additional demonstration partners in manufacturing, health, climate and robotics.

Norrsken supports businesses seeking to address environmental and social problems. It was established by Niklas Adalberth, a co-founder of Swedish payments company Klarna.
