Two injured as waterspouts hit western Sicily
Buildings, vehicles and farmland were damaged after two waterspouts formed off Marsala and moved inland.

Two people were injured in Petrosino, western Sicily, on 9 October 2026 when a tornado struck their car and hurled it into a ravine. Both occupants were taken to hospital.
The incident came as two waterspouts developed at sea close to the port of Marsala. After reaching the coast, they travelled inland towards the surrounding Trapani area, damaging farmland as well as buildings and vehicles.
Among the buildings badly damaged was the Alcide De Gasperi school in the district of Terrenove. Emergency services responded across the affected coastal area.
Video recorded on Petrosino’s Biscione seafront, near Sibiliana, captured the tornado as it moved from the water towards land.
