Lisbon received the Best City Destination in Europe and Best Cruise Destination in Europe honours at the World Travel Awards Europe 2026. The awards ceremony was held in Montenegro’s Kotor Bay on 17 October.

The Lisbon Tourism Association said the results reflected the capital’s appeal to international visitors and the range of tourism experiences it offers. Its director-general, António Valle, described the honours as recognition of shared efforts to develop tourism in the destination.

The association said its strategy remained focused on heritage, culture and a broader choice of experiences throughout the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. It aims to encourage visitors to spend more time in the region and explore more of it, while increasing tourism’s economic and social contribution.

The annual awards cover destinations, hotels, airlines and other tourism businesses. The ceremony took place at the Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort, marking Montenegro’s first time as host in the awards’ 33-year history.
