US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle resigns after White House request
Guilfoyle denied allegations concerning gifts, a threat against a Greek official and an offer to exchange influence for payment of a credit card bill.

Kimberly Guilfoyle has stepped down as US ambassador to Greece following allegations about her conduct. White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia said on 13 October 2026 that the administration had requested her resignation.
In a social media post that day, Guilfoyle rejected the allegations as false and said she intended to defend her reputation. She also expressed continued support for President Donald Trump and the America First movement despite her departure.
The allegations included threatening a Greek official, accepting inappropriate gifts and services, and offering to exert influence within the administration in return for payment of a large credit card bill. Trump had previously said his administration was considering dismissing Guilfoyle and was unhappy with the situation.
Guilfoyle’s lawyers had earlier disputed claims by Eric Deters, an American businessman and former political candidate. They said he owed her around US$150,000 for consulting work and speeches. They also said she had rejected a US$1 million offer from Deters to promote a private legal case.
Responding to accusations involving gifts and private-jet travel, her lawyers said Guilfoyle had sought and obtained State Department guidance. They maintained that she had complied fully with the applicable ethics and gift-acceptance rules.
